5 out of 5 stars Nice, up to this point, but still unused   October 27, 2008

I have to start by saying that I have not used this computer in an immersion. However, I have studied the manual and played with the Puck a little bit to learn all its features.

First of all, the interface is just like I expected. The only way to interact with the Puck is using the red button, but it is very easy to use and it only takes a while to understand the basic mechanism: one 'push' go to next option/ value; 'push and hold' confirm current option/value.

The display is easy to read and it is not cluttered. For example, when you're diving it splits the main information among three screens that you can circle using the red button. The first screen has only 'vital' information, while the other ones have extra and statistical information. The display is big (with particularly big numbers for remaining time), but the whole computer doesn't feel too big on the wrist.

The manual is clearly written, although I have a small remark (you can download the manual beforehand from Mares' website): the English version of the manual is way better than the Italian or the Spanish versions. In those other languages, there are sentences that are confusing but are perfectly clear on the English version. A further comment on the documentation is that there's a 'Pluck Flow Chart' on several websites that summarizes the main features of this computer. It can be used as a reference card. That flow chart is great, and I read somewhere that Mares will try to include it with the computer in the future.

Something I don't like about this computer is that the PC interface is too expensive compared to the price of the computer (about 30%). It is called Mares Drak, and uses and USB port. I downloaded and tried the software, but I didn't like it particularly, so I think I'm not buying the PC interface unless I can export the data into a better software.

Finally, I have to say that I picked this particular computer because of three main reason:
- First of all, I think it has a great price for an entry level diving computer.
- Then, it uses a conservative algorithm. It also offers the possibility of configuring it to be even more conservative.
- Finally, it got a great review in www.scubadiving.com that convinced me of going for it.

Bought it as a backup to my main dive computer. Easy to use and works great. Good value.
